Fire Cider Recipe
Before you read this long list of ingredients, I want to let you know that not all of these are necessary to make an effective fire cider! Pick 3-4 of these ingredients and you’ve really got something wonderful. You can also switch out dried versions of some of these too. For example, garlic powder, turmeric powder, dried rosemary etc. This should not be something that will break your bank! I encourage you to measure with your heart (this is mostly what I do in the kitchen). I made a massive jar here, yours can be as big or small as you like! All the ingredients you see here are safe in pregnancy, but if you have any special concerns always reach out to your midwife first ;)
Ingredients:
3 star anise
2 jalapeños
2 limes
1 large lemon
2 oranges
1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
1 burdock root
Fresh horseradish (about the size of my fist)
1 red onion
1 bulb of garlic cloves (peeled and separated)
1-2 tbs fresh peppercorns
2-3 cinnamon sticks
2-3 turmeric fingers
1 sprig of Thai basil
1 medium ginger root
Enough apple cider vinegar to cover all your ingredients
Large jar (preferably glass) with sealable lid
The instructions here are super simple! Just be sure to wash everything well (I even peeled my turmeric a bit with a potato peeler), chop everything into about 1-inch chunks- it doesn’t need to be exact- and throw everything into your jar. Then, cover all your ingredients completely with the vinegar. My ingredients were floating in the picture above and I added more vinegar later to basically fill the jar.
Now , we wait! Store your cider in a cool, dry area away from sunlight for 12-14 days to let the vinegar really soak up all that goodness. I even like to give mine a quick and gentle shake once a day, but this isn’t crucial.
When it’s ready, strain all the cider from the ingredients using a mesh strainer and/or some clean cheese cloth. There you have it, a powerful immune boosting cider made with love!
Store it the same as before and it will last at least 6 months.
For general prevention, take 2 ounces (1 shot) a day. If you’re sick, take 3 shots per day.
